Highlights From 2006
As Presented to the Board of Directors by Angela McLemore

The completion date for the new Walnut Hills/Evanston Health Center is February 15, 2006. It is going to be a beautiful facility, one which will be a true asset to the Walnut Hills and the Evanston Communities. The new facility will have twelve patient examination rooms and six dental operatories. The new facility will contain state-of-the-art informational technology systems such as electronic medical records, electronic dental records and museum quality educational exhibits. Within three to four years we hope to generate four thousand new patient users.

We have received the following grants for 2006:

  • Greater Cincinnati Foundation—$72,000 (for our capital campaign)
  • City of Cincinnati—$350,000 (for our capital campaign)

We are pleased with our new web-site. This web-site gives the viewing public much information about Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. and its history, board of directors, staff, services, partners and much more.

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. continues to bring to fruition our vision statement, “Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. is recognized as Cincinnati’s premier health care provider. We offer quality, professional, comprehensive health services to all people in our surrounding communities.  We have done this by re-creating our Continuous Quality Improvement system. Our copyrighted slogan is “Caring for Our Community in Extraordinary Ways.” We have formally submitted our letter of intent to the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations to obtain this prestigious accreditation as a testament to our dedication to quality care.

The addition of nurse midwives to our staff have enabled Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. to render care to more women in their first trimester of pregnancy.

Team building has bee a major thrust at Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. with each and every staff member being involved in a retreat using the DiSC method and attendant exercises to last throughout 2007.

The Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. Board of Directors held a retreat to undergo a self-evaluation and to create a new mission statement. The new mission statement is:

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. is dedicated to serving

the primary health care needs of our communities.

Vital to this mission is our role to provide quality health

services and facilities for everyone.

This new mission statement now complements our vision statement:

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. is recognized as

Cincinnati’s premier health care provider. We offer quality, professional,

comprehensive health services to all people

in our surrounding communities.

The Emergency Room Diversion Proposal of the Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati’s Regional Primary Care Access Initiative is truly a welcome challenge to develop along with fellow colleagues in Cincinnati. Our goal is to create %100 access to quality health care for all people in Hamilton County. Our particular proposal is to offer a medical home to those who misuse hospital emergency for their primary care needs.

Other initiatives in which we are involved are the following:

  1. The Health Improvement Collaborative of the Greater Cincinnati Health Council (the Community Health Assessment Committee) to obtain demographic data, through a community health status survey. This survey will help to determine the health status of Greater Cincinnati so that the appropriate health care programs can be established to meet the needs of our individual communities.
  2. Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. is a partner with the Center for Closing the Health Gap in Greater Cincinnati. We are collaborating with the Center in the Do Right Campaign to empower the Walnut Hills community to improve its nutrition and physical activity and to combat obesity.
  3. Growing Well Cincinnati is a new organization in our city. This organization grew out of the concerns of NHC regarding standards and quantity of services in school based health services. Its mission is “to create an integrated, coordinated sustainable system that ensures access to quality health and wellness services for students and their families within the Cincinnati Public Schools’ Community Learning Centers.” The most challenging components include primary medical, oral health and behavioral health services. The Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. President/CEO is a member of the Leadership Advisory Committee for Growing Well Cincinnati.
  4. Our initiative with Talbert House is in Phase II wherein Talbert House will render mental health services to our patients. In Phase I, NHC delivers primary health care to Talbert House patients. Phase I became operative in 2005.

Our diabetes care program has blossomed. Our certified diabetes educator, our registered dietician, and our entire national diabetes collaborative staff have worked together to create a very popular, community service to the diabetic patient and to the pre-diabetic patient. Diabetes prevention classes were expanded to those patients diagnosed with diabetes due to the overwhelming request and response from patients to attend these classes. Our long awaited diabetic cookbook will soon be marketed.

Our logotype and slogan are copyrighted and used together to make for the beginning of our branding efforts. They are beginning to be seen throughout Cincinnati.

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. was the regional administrator for the Ohio Commission of Minority Health’s Minority Health Month activities in April.

We continue to be involved in city-wide and county-wide emergency preparedness programs concerned with pandemic influenza and other disasters.

Our corporate compliance program is integrated into our quality improvement system

The Anthony Munoz Foundation offered to adopt a second NHC School-Based Health Center- South Avondale. The center is expected to receive ongoing operating funds of approximately $25,000 per year and other support from the Foundation.

Pat DeJarnett was elected to the National Assemble of School-Based Health Centers Board of Directors and to be President of the Ohio School Based Health Care Association

In October, the Rockdale and South Avondale School-Based Health Centers were showcased as successful projects to national recipients of the Robert Wood Johnson/Pursuing Perfection funding for the Asthma Care Initiative done in collaboration with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Neighborhood Health Care, Inc. operations have truly been augmented in 2006. Highlight of operations accomplishments are the following:
